DRS started MCing for Marcus Intalex in the early Hardcore raves around Manchester and Liverpool in the early 1990s, before moving south to Bournemouth on the coast in Dorset and began residences at the Opera House, Club Extreme and various South Coast drum and bass venues. In 1996 DRS hooked up with the Good Looking Organisation, joining the promotional tour for LTJ Bukem's Logical Progression Volume 1 compilation. For the next five years, DRS became synonymous with Logical Progression and went on to record Volume 2 in the series alongside Blame. He also ventured into the studio and laid down vocals on tracks with LTJ Bukem ("Constellations") and Nookie ("Pushing the Vibe")
He has since moved onwards and upwards, working closely with fellow Mancunian's Marcus Intalex and ST Files and their Soul:r label. As well as recording tracks with Mist:ical, Lynx & Kemo and Calibre, DRS is host MC for Soul:ution anbd A Bunch Of Cuts nights including their residencies in London. He also toured on the Misti:cal LP tour (providing vocals for the title track, 'The Eleventh Hour'), with Calibre for his many album tours, and recently for Marcus Intalex on his '21' album tour.
Together in the studio, Calibre and DRS have worked on a range of projects to compliment and develop each other's styles. From the halftime hip-hop influenced "Slums" (appearing on Calibre's "Overflow LP", 2008) to the uptempo reggae skank of "Hustlin", they make an excellent combination whether appearing live or on track. DRS has never limited himself to one style and, together with fellow MC Strategy and DJ Konny Kon, flexes his skills on the mic as part of hip-hop crew, Broke'n'English. In the short time they've been together, the group have performed alongside some of the biggest acts from both sides of the Atlantic including Xzibit, Jurrassic 5, Supernatural, The Beatnuts, Jeru The Damaja, Souls of Mischief, Q-Bert, Rahzel, Saian Supa Crew, Jehst, Rodney P & Skitz, Skinnyman, Taskforce, Harry Love and Wildflower on some of the biggest stages, including Glastonbury. They released their debut LP "Subject to Status" in 2007 on Fat City to critical acclaim.
If further evidence of his versatility is required, it can be found in DRS' work alongside house producers Kouros adding a soulful and melodic voice to their track, 'Tears.' In 2009 and 2011, DRS toured once again with visits to Australia and New Zealand alongside Calibre. Their 2009 single together, 'Loves Too Tight to Mention' demonstrates exactly why the two work so well together and DRS has also appeared again as a guest vocalist on Calibre's most recent LP 'Condition' adding his unique touch to 2 of the albums highlights 'People Never Change' and 'Closing Doors'.
The Estate Recordings label head DRS has also flexed impressive A&R skills in 2012 with the release of Chimpo's 'Blowfish' single as well as the exciting debut LP 'Poor with £100 Trainers' from fellow Mancunian wordsmith Skittles.
2012 will be the year this revered MC and personality of the scene steps to the forefront with what promises to be one of the most important albums for Drum and Bass in 2012 on one of the scenes vital and defining labels. "I Don't Usually Like MC's But" will be released in the third quarter of 2012 on Marcus Intalex' Soul:r label, and features a star studded cast of guest producers and MC's. Principle production has been handled by long time friend, and Manchester ally Dub Phizix, and the list of guests is very impressive. Marcus Intalex, Calibre, dBridge, Lenzman, Enei, Lynx, and more collaborate on production plus vocal guest spots from Jehst, Jenna G, Kemo, Fox, Pete Simpson, & Riya.
